6th Grade Trimester Spanish

Pleasant Grove Middle School

Spanish I—Mrs. Pettit—Room C6

6th Grade Trimester Class

Course Overview:

Students will be taught the Spanish alphabet, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, colors, shapes, telling time, body parts, clothing, food, school vocabulary, and animals.  Most of the vocabulary is reinforced through fun activities such as word searches, crossword puzzles, Lingo Bingo, assignments that involve artwork, and games that involve movement (e.g. “Simón Dice”).

Usually every other Friday we watch a video on a Spanish speaking country, do a video worksheet, and have a class discussion about the video.  On alternate Fridays we play “Bino” (after they learn their numbers).

Homework is generally only classwork that hasn’t been completed.

During four weeks of the trimester, we will go to a computer class one day a week.

Grades:

Quizzes—111 points (about 20% of grade)

       Projects and assignments—125 points

Classwork— 200 points for the trimester (broken down into two 100 pt. grades)

Video Worksheets—usually 20 points each —5 or 6 videos are shown

Grades can be viewed on jupitergrades.com.

To be successful in Spanish I students should:

· Participate in class

· Complete and turn in all classwork

· Make flash cards of new vocabulary each week

· Drill and practice at home at least 15 minutes each night
